To build and lead a robust Innovation and R & D function with effective strategies structure, processes, infrastructure, organization and capabilities to fulfill TRI-K'S strategic goals and business growth objectives as a leading provider of science driven specialty ingredients to the personal care market.
This includes innovation and R&D related to maximizing the potential/growth of TRI-K's existing business, products and ingredients pipelines.
Additionally, the role will identify new business and growth opportunities in the realms of fermentation, biotechnology phytochemistry and business/biological ecology.

15-18 (includes TRI-K India Formulation Team).
Role Objectives:
oDevelop plans, strategies, initiatives and projects to drive next gen advances in discovery/synthesis to create multiple pipelines that address latest consumer trends / needs in order to ensure sustainable and profitable growth for Tri-K.
oDevelop and promote a culture of Innovation and a philosophy of being science/knowledge leaders to create value for the business.
Ensure a cohesive, motivated and professional team with a results-oriented culture based on personal responsibility / initiative, teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
oEnsure that the Innovation and R & D team is structured and organized for long term success with clear reporting lines/responsibilities, effective project leadership, detailed project plans with identified milestones, timeliness & risk management.
oBe a strategic partner/advisor in terms of technology, Innovation, know-how, organization technical/R&D core-competencies, product commercialization and program execution.
oCollaborate closely with top management, marketing, product management, manufacturing and sales functions to define needs of R&D programs and deliver the concepts, capabilities, designs and plan.
Ensure R&D projects are delivered on time, within budget and that the products meet agreed specifications & functionalities.
oPosition Tri-K as a cutting-edge science and Innovation led company in the industry with senior leadership of client organizations and at industry forums.
oDevelop strategies, identify opportunities and manage the execution of new initiatives in the areas of biotechnology, fermentation, phytochemistry, biological ecology networks and other such cutting-edge technologies.
RequirementsStrategic
Responsibilities:
1.
Develop the Innovation and R&D roadmap of the company and assure leadership of the development of platforms and products in line with the strategic and business goals/aspirations of Tri-K2.
Build an effective Innovation and R&D organization.
Develop a vision and culture of Innovation and scientific orientation/knowledge capabilities of the company towards creating technological value for the business.

Manage the Innovation processes, Innovation documentation/disclosure processes and IP strategy to build a powerful IP position for Tri-K.
drive the Innovation funnel effectively & efficiently by defining product development milestones and leading cross-functional teams towards successful achievement of milestones and outcomes.
4.
Play a leadership role in business development and pre-commercial development activities including effectively influencing senior leadership and key stakeholders in the client organizations to garner support for Tri-K products and Innovations.
5.
Plays a leadership role (as part of the steering council) in supporting and implementing PE Voyage, culture and capability building strategies and initiatives including driving the implementation of the same in own areas of responsibility.

Continuously seek identify and assess capabilities of organizations/entities in the areas of biotechnology, fermentation, phytochemistry and business/biological ecologies as potential collaboration/JV partners - conduct required technical/R&D/Innovation due diligence to evaluate suitability for relevant partnerships with TRI-K.
7.
Work closely with TRI-K Board, President & CEO - TRI-K and other senior leaders to identify and evaluate potential M & A candidates in areas of new technologies/platforms & products relevant to TRI-K strategic growth aspirations.
Carry out the necessary technical/R&D/Innovation related due diligence to assess suitability of such M & A candidates.
Operational
Responsibilities:
oGuides daily activity and supervision of R&D and formulations lab and staff including prioritization of projects and programs.
oCo-lead (along with strategic marketing & product management function), documentation and approval of needs & customer requirements being addressed in each R&D program.
oPrioritization of projects and utilization of resources with respect to validation of designs and experiments as well as navigation of projects through the gate approval process.
oProvides initial production recipes for new Tri-K products including procedure and specifications.
oResponsible for collaborating with manufacturing to ensure effective transitions from lab scale to pilot to production scale-up/stabilization.
oManages the technical service team and regulatory requirements through the technical service manager.
oManages the applications and evaluation studies group with respect to claims support and substantiation.
oLeverages resources within GSL to promote and facilitate new product development for Tri-K product linesoIdentifies and drives external partnerships with academic and scientific institutions and technology partners to drive Innovation opportunities.
oPartners with patent attorneys regarding intellectual property and filing of patents.
oPrepares project and budget reports as requested by management.
oPresents product information and represents Tri-K at various symposium and industry events with white papers or presentations.
oDevelops an effective library & documentation of all products, processes, manufacturing routes etc.

Responsibilities:
1) Assesses and defines talent and capability requirements at various levels for own area of responsibility.
2) Plays the primary role in talent acquisition for functions reporting to him/her.

3) Sets effective goals and work plans for all reporting roles.
Ensures a mindset and culture of performance excellence and results/outcome orientation.
4) Effectively applies performance assessment processes for department staff.

Cross-functional collaboration & relationship building:
1) Galvanizes global cross-functional teams and resources to ensure seamless product development/project management including successful product manufacturing, launch to the market and further expansion.
2) Define product development milestones and lead cross-functional team work to ensure achievement of milestones.
3) Regularly update CEO, Board Members and senior cross-functional colleagues on Innovation/R&D strategy, projects, road maps, workplans, progress of projects, resources and budget requirements.
4) Ensure periodic review and action plans meetings with CEO and senior cross-functional colleagues to successfully steer projects to effective conclusions and to ensure all key people have clear visibility and are kept informed on developments.
5) Oversee the project management processes of the company and ensure that programs are executed in a manner that ensures multi-functional representation and appropriate involvement of and communication with senior management.
6) Work closely with strategic marketing, product managers and sales organization to build a credible one face of Tri-K based relationships with client organizations and industry forums.
Work with them collaboratively to project Tri-K effectively to external stakeholders.
7) Work with CEO and Finance functions to ensure the efficient deployment of costs and capital on R&D programs.
Educational
Qualifications:
PhD in Biochemistry/Biotech preferably with adequate expertise in Organic Chemistry based synthesis.
Experience:
17-20 years relevant post PhD experience in fermentation, Personal care, beauty, and cosmetics ingredients, formulation of finished products.
At least 7 years' experience leading R&D/Innovation/Applied Research Teams.

Qualifications:
oDeep comfort level of the product development process with respect to bioactive ingredients specifically for hair and skin care.
oBreadth of knowledge of legal and global regulatory requirements for the personal care industry.
oConsumer market orientation as regards the use of specialty personal care ingredients for formulation of finished productsoCustomer orientation gained via significant participation in customer facing interactions in support of new project generation and pipeline development.
oDemonstrated leadership and management experience in working with cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams on complex projects.
oA track record of bringing relevant technologies/platforms and methods to Innovation and R&D projects and processes.
oA fluent track record of successful product development, commercialization and IP management.
oRobust understanding of team dynamics and experienced at building teams that deliver results.
oPrior experience of building an effective Innovation and R&D function including vision, policies, processes, capabilities, and talent management.
oExcellent written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
